Regular festival wristband exchange is possible there until 9:00 PM; however, Comfort Tickets cannot be exchanged for festival wristbands at this location. Admission and Access

Wristband exchange

You can exchange your ticket for a wristband on the first day of its validity.

To do this, present the QR code on your ticket at an official wristband exchange point. It does not matter whether you print the ticket (A4, QR code area must not be folded) or show the QR code directly on the screen of your smartphone. Please note that it’s not possible to upgrade your ticket on the spot (exchange a regular ticket for a Comfort Zone ticket).

The wristband exchange for regular tickets is located at the Dorfschulhaus Wabern. Comfort Zone tickets can only be exchanged at the Comfort Zone Check-in at the top station of the Gurtenbahn.

All regular ticket holders should exchange their wristbands at the Dorfschulhaus in the valley. The wristband must be worn tightly around the right wrist. Damaged or loose wristbands will not be accepted and will not be replaced if lost. The wristband is not transferable. Anyone who misuses the wristband is liable to prosecution and will be reported to the police. The wristband is attached directly to the wrist when it is replaced. Loose wristbands will not be given to other people.

There is now a second wristband exchange at the second entrance to the Waldbühne. Please note: The regular wristband exchange is only available until 9:00 PM. There is no Comfort wristband exchange. Comfort Zone tickets can only be exchanged at the Bergstation Comfort Zone check-in (right next to the Comfort Zone entrance).

The age check (+16/+18) is carried out directly on the wristband when the wristband is exchanged. Children born in 2013 and younger can visit the festival free of charge when accompanied by an adult and do not need a wristband. Tickets for children must now be ordered via email (ticketing@gurtenfestival.ch) (free of charge). Please include the order number(s) of your ticket(s). A maximum of two child tickets can be requested per ticket/person.

Due to the change of location of the wristband exchange at the top station, wheelchair users can exchange their ticket for a wristband at check-in.

Access to the festival site

Access to the festival site is now possible via two routes: through Wabern (by Gurtenbahn or on foot) or on foot from the bus stop Spiegel/Blinzern. Detailed information about getting there can be found under “Arrival.”

Safety

Feel Safe Together

Dear visitors

We want to prevent incidents of sexism, racism, queerophobia, violence or other forms of discrimination from occurring at the Gurtenfestival. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination and want everyone to feel safe and comfortable here. In order to make our festival as discrimination-sensitive as possible and to counteract power structures, we ask you to adhere to a few non-negotiable principles. If you experience discrimination, violence or racism yourself or if you observe such a scene, please do not hesitate to seek help from us. Report to the security or stage pit staff or the care team and / or stop by the first aid centre! You can reach the care team directly via WhatsApp (+41 31 386 10 90), only active during the festival days. The festival management via telephone (031 386 10 10) or email (info@gurtenfestival.ch).

Protection of minors

The sale and distribution of alcohol to children and young people under the age of 16 is prohibited. The consumption of spirits or drinks with spirits (mixed drinks) by young people under the age of 18 is prohibited by law. The age check (+16/+18) is already carried out when the wristband is exchanged and the corresponding age is made visible on the wristband.

Recommendations for children

We recommend coming to the festival with children at quieter times, when large crowds are not expected and people can move away from the stages at any time. Children under the age of 6 should generally not be brought into crowds. Children should not be carried on shoulders through large crowds. It should be discussed in advance with children over the age of 12 how they should behave. It is generally important never to walk with children in the middle of a crowd. At entrances and exits, we recommend moving in front of or behind the crowd.

Loudness
Children are not yet able to judge when it is too loud for them. Therefore, please keep a sufficient distance from the loudspeakers and protect your children’s hearing with hearing protection (available in the Festival Store next to the main stage).

Meeting point
Agree a meeting point with your child where you can find each other in an emergency. Free stickers are available in the Festival Store to label your child with their telephone number.

Gurtenbahn
To avoid the long waiting times for the Gurtenbahn, it is advisable not to arrive with your child at peak times (not between 16.00 and 20.00).

We are happy to welcome all young guests at the festival. However, we ask parents or accompanying adults to always put the needs of the children first. If it gets too much for the children, it is advisable to go home if necessary.

Tickets for children must now be ordered by email (ticketing@gurtenfestival.ch) and are free of charge. Please include the order number(s) of your ticket(s). A maximum of two child tickets can be issued per ticket/person.

Festival-Helpline

In case of emergency – especially during the festival – please call the festival helpline. Emergencies only, please! The helpline is available from Tuesday, 15th July, 11:00 noon, until Sunday 20th July 2025, 4:00 p.m.

+41 31 386 10 10

Crowdsurfing

As at most other festivals, crowdsurfing is also prohibited at the Gurtenfestival, as it has repeatedly led to injuries in the past.

Theft

We recommend taking as few valuables as possible to the festival. It is best to always carry valuables on you or deposit them in a locker. Lockers cost CHF 2.00 per opening, are not attended and are available in the Foody and at the tent stage area. No liability is accepted for stolen or lost items. 2 CHF can be exchanged at the Info Point in the Festival Store.

First aid
A well equipped first aid team is available in case of emergencies. The first aid is located in the pavilion next to the Gurten funicular.
Protect your hearing

The Gurtenfestival observes a maximum sound level of 100 dB(A) which is the maximum level permissible by law. Please be aware that this sound level may cause hearing damage. Ear plugs are available at the Info Point in the Festival Store and at all bars.

Security staff
During the festival, our security staff are on the festival grounds around the clock. Please notify them straight away in case of problems. The security staff’s instructions are to be complied with.
Potable water

Sun, partying and alcohol can lead to dehydration of the body. It is therefore all the more important to drink non-alcoholic drinks or water regularly. There are several water points (free of charge) at all toilet facilities.

Sustainability

Yes, a festival produces waste, consumes energy and causes traffic. But what if all the people who spend four days on the Gurten spent this time individually, with all its ecological side effects? There is no clear evidence that a joint festival weekend is ultimately more sustainable than all its visitors spending time in private, consuming resources and causing emissions – but this would at least be our major goal. Sustainability is and has never been mere lip service for us, but every year we work towards an ever more sustainable festival experience. We think in cycles wherever possible and include all dependencies, so we don’t stop at the gates of our festival. And we are currently working on a life cycle assessment that includes the entire festival with all its departments and will publish the status quo and our goals annually in future and record our progress.

For several years now, we have been documenting all the key figures in the various sectors that we can use as a starting point: Food, infrastructure, transport, energy and much more. We are constantly endeavoring to make meaningful improvements and have already achieved numerous milestones: for example, we set an upper limit of 50% for meat dishes at the food stands, we were one of the first festivals in Europe to introduce reusable cups, the local production of approx. 50% of our electricity consumption is produced locally in an intelligent and very efficiently controlled generator network, we reuse different materials wherever possible and separate and recycle everything that is not used as residual waste for energy generation, we continue to promote the already very high proportion (92%) of visitors travelling to and from the festival by public transport, bicycle or on foot, we do not allow free goodies (sampling) on and around the festival site and much more.

Sustainability has a social dimension that is just as central to us as ecology. Every year, we build a temporary city on Bern’s local mountain that aims to exemplify what has always been one of the main ideas of music festivals, especially the first editions of the Gurtenfestival 40 years ago: to create a small utopia in which we all forget about everyday life for a few days. But like every city, we are also confronted with real problems that challenge this deliberately naïve wish. This makes the well-being of our visitors even more important to us. In addition to the traditional security team and the first-aid team, we operate an independent festival hotline and have a professional care team permanently on site to look after the safety and well-being of all visitors. And even though we are a commercial festival, we set limits on sponsorship where we do not recognize our values. This includes our long-standing renunciation of tobacco sponsorship. We also curate partners, appearances and activations in the area of sponsorship and attach great importance to a pleasant ambience, a nice atmosphere and an all-round attractive experience.

Beer mug

The legendary Gurtenfestival beer mug made of acrylic has become a coveted collector’s item over the years. It fits perfectly into the festival’s reusable initiatives, as it can be refilled as needed and used throughout the entire duration of the festival. The beer mug is available on-site for CHF 5.00.

Reusable Cups and PET Bottles

Beer, long drinks, energy drinks, and mate are served in reusable cups (deposit: CHF 2.00). All other beverages are available in PET bottles with a deposit of CHF 0.50 or in cans with a deposit of CHF 2.00. Cups, cans, and PET bottles can be returned at the two return stations as well as at any bar or beverage stand.

Plates and Cutlery Made from Renewable Resources

Another sustainability measure involves using plates and cutlery made from renewable resources: the plates and bowls are made from sugarcane, and the cutlery is made from starch (cPLA). A deposit of CHF 0.50 is charged for each item. After being returned to one of the two return stations, the tableware is incinerated together with the other combustible waste from the Gurtenfestival at the Forsthaus energy center operated by Energie Wasser Bern, where it is used to generate electricity and heat for the city of Bern.
